A Mentor Like No Other

Willow’s eyes watered as they galloped at top speed. Like radar, Sugar’s ears twitched instinctively surveying her surroundings. Willow felt safe with her.
Oh no, the bridge! An uneasiness welled up inside Willow. A few more steps and Sugar’s white hooves would be walking on the wooden boards. Or would they? They came to an abrupt, but expected halt.
Without wasting time, Sugar reared up and then stepped backwards. Her hind legs moved further and further down the steep embankment. Would they end up in the river this time? Sugar’s refusal to cross the wooden bridge had become an ongoing ritual. Willow continued to coax her forward, but her attention was focused on the river below. Sugar was feisty, but so was she!
Like a flash, it came to her!
“Don’t look back.”
“Always look forward.”
“Be determined to attain your goal.”
The shift was palpable. Sugar’s radar had caught Willow’s thoughts and new determination. With a final nudge from Willow, Sugar took a huge leap upward and forward. Across the bridge they went!
Life is full of bridges. So, don’t look back, always look forward and be determined to attain your goal. Willow had finally grasped this important life lesson, for which she was deeply grateful. As always, Sugar’s timing had been impeccable.
